About JuristScale
JuristScale explains, in plain English, what lawyers and legal processes cost in the United States — before you sit down with an attorney.
Why this site exists
Most people hire a lawyer only a few times in their lives, often under stress: after an arrest, an accident, a divorce or a death in the family. Fee structures are confusing and prices are rarely published. We collect fee data from official sources and industry surveys so you can budget, compare quotes and ask the right questions about a fee agreement.
What we publish
- Typical fee ranges by practice area, with the source and date of every figure.
- How lawyers charge (hourly, flat fee, retainer, contingency) and which costs are not attorney fees (court fees, experts, filing fees).
- State guides built on official state court fees and rules.
How we handle legal accuracy
JuristScale is an independent editorial team, not a law firm. Our fee guides are written from official sources, government fee schedules and industry surveys, and every figure is cited and dated. Guides are not currently individually reviewed by a licensed attorney, so we never present them as legal advice: use them to budget and to ask better questions, then confirm fees and rules with a lawyer licensed in your state.
What we are not
We are not a law firm, a lawyer referral service or a substitute for legal advice. We don't accept payment from law firms to change our figures. Read our editorial policy, methodology, how we make money and disclaimer.
